Investigators were recently called in to try and solve a rather unusual case in North Texas near Dallas.  The case could easily be categorized under several paranormal headings, few if any of which would be mainstream.

A mother called to report that her daughter was physically involved with an angel.  Her daughter is 18, sexually active and has had a steady boyfriend since junior high school. Recently, they broke up; the boy was devastated and shared his concerns with the girl’s mother.  Seems that while she has been seen with her new boyfriend, no one knows who he is, he is not from the neighborhood, doesn’t go to the local HS, etc.  Strangely, the old boyfriend says his replacement is a good looking beyond belief... Tall, athletically built, blond, blue eyed and in his words, “perfect,” which sounds odd coming from a boy who just lost his girlfriend to this Adonis.

Mom, who is a divorced single parent, accepts her daughter’s sexual activities, saying that otherwise she is a good student, college bound, and no problem at home, so the boyfriend coming over has never been an issue; but Mom admits she has never been introduced to him, for that matter she has never even seen him.

Mom reports that the old boyfriend, who is still friendly with her daughter and always welcome in her home, told her recently that he came over to talk to her daughter one afternoon, went up to her second floor bedroom and found her with the new guy.  He claims he did not say a word, but in a moment, he found himself on the bedroom floor after the new guy more or less raised his hand.  They did not touch each other, he said and they were reportedly several feet apart.  The kid ran from the home.  He did however tell the Mom what had happened later on.

The daughter admitted to Mom that the incident happened. Her explanation was that her new boyfriend is an “angel,” not like an angel, but the real thing.  Mom is now more than just a little upset. She would approach the new boyfriend, if she ever saw him, but at best he has only been seen in the girl’s company from a distance by other close friends.

Admittedly, there is precedence for this kind of thing…remembers Lot’s daughters, who reportedly mated with the angels who save them from Sodom and later gave birth to giants?  There are other cases in folklore, but nothing the researchers could find of in modern times.  Given her age, the girl could be a little off, but that would not explain the altercation between the old boyfriend and her new angelic mate.

Obviously, ASUP Coordinator, Rick Moran, who was a student of Comparative Religions and who has visited Persia, Arabia and lived with both the nomadic tribes and the Hassidic Jewish community, knows most of the angel lore from all angles, but freely admitted he was short on logical answers for this 21st century claim. He was not willing to put a team in the field for an investigation, noting that in the question of angels you always have to remember the flip side of that coin is demonic and none of his investigators are demonologists.

The case preceded strictly my phone, between Moran and the mother; the girl at the center of this case was not willing to talk to investigators, church leaders or anyone else.  Because the family lived in a town where ASUP had friends with high school aged children, a discrete inquiry was made and at least as first, the story was confirmed, the subject being a good student, no known problems with drugs or alcohol, the perfect teenager.

The explanation for the entire case came down in rapid succession.  Moran advised the mother to keep on her daughter about meeting the new boyfriend, even suggesting that until they met, he might be banned from the house entirely.  At about the same time, the daughter, whose attendance records are spotless, took a few mornings off, telling her mom she was not feeling well.  While this only added to the mothers concern, stating that she was frightened that indeed her daughter might be in the first throws of demonic possession, it only alerted the ASUP to a totally different line of thought.  Moran made a suggestion to the mother, who agreed to the idea. She went to the nearest drug store and purchased a pregnancy test kit and with a good deal of reluctance, the subject submitted to the test. It was positive.

Now the mother was convinced that her daughter was carrying an angel en-utero, but once again Moran suggested that she tell her daughter that she would like to see a paternity test. She did not specify with whom the test would be matched, and her daughter finally broke down.  She explained that she knew she was pregnant with her old boyfriend’s baby and came up with the idea of saying she had mated with an angel so that her mom would not become hysterical.  Mom had thought the girl was on birth control, but being a teenager, she failed to take her medication as prescribed.  The daughter had somehow come to the idea that mom would accept the pregnancy if it had been an act of paranormal proportions. The old boyfriend went along with the idea, confirming the existence of the imaginary angel with supernatural powers.

There is a lesson to be learned from this case, in fact several.  First is of course never to take anything for granted, but more importantly, don’t go running off to the nearest angel expert or demonologist before you get the entire story.  That is just good detective work and what makes the difference between ghost hunters and paranormal investigators.
