Probably one of the most interesting, if not most complex cases ever undertaken by the ASUP is one that unfortunately was never completed, due the reluctance of the subjects to continue it. This was a case in Louisiana that had all the ear marks of a case history that could have rivals everything we have investigated since Amityville.

Our Louisiana experience came from a family member who reported that his sister’s home was severely haunted, or perhaps infested by negative energy that had physically abused more than one resident and visitor. Window blinds that had been left tightly closed were found open a few minutes later, and family members routinely saw shadow people and floating dark masses there. Disembodied voices were heard, doors opened and closed at will and the master bedroom was so haunted that no one would sleep in the bed there. The throwing of objects and personal property being moved was so common that the family began to think nothing of it. The events were reportedly tearing the family apart, even thought they were reported to be deeply religious Catholics and among the suspected ghosts were none other than the late Monsignor from the local diocese.

The family in question had suffered psychological and psychic trauma throughout their lives; one sister died as a teenager after a long illness, the house in question had a history of lingering deaths, but was just now turning decidedly ugly in its character, which seemed at face value to be more like a case of infestation than merely a haunting, but before any answers could be hypothesized, in depth research had to be accomplished and a field trip had to be organized.

Research into the property ownership, former uses of the land and public records brought us nothing that we had not learned from the family, so we were about to embark on a long trip armed with little but our toolkits, cameras and training. After arriving at the home in the late afternoon, we were met by an in-law who gave us the keys to the house. A gatekeeper was posted and the tech team went in to set up cameras and do a floor plan of the house. After that the team members entered the house in pairs to get individual base line readings. By the time that was accomplished we broke for a dinner break before proceeding with more in-depth investigating.

On our return the group once more began to look at each part of the house, for example, one team member was using the toilet and was shocked when a shower door suddenly closed, it was anecdotal, there was no second witness, but interesting, never the less.
Likewise, the master bedroom got a lot of attention, a room that reportedly was not used by members of the family; a visitor to the house had been choked by an unseen spirit in that room and it was common for members of the family to hear the raspy utterance, “Get out.” There. Nevertheless when it was time to get some sleep two members of the ASUP curled up for a good night’s sleep in that room without incident, although others found it very uncomfortable, even before they learned of the rooms history.

The group lead investigator was sure that she had seen someone walking into the dining room as she tried to fall asleep, while another team member was sitting at the dining room table and saw nothing. A closet door reportedly would open and close at will, but a camera trained on the door remained shut all night long…the next morning, after the gear was shut down and removed, the door was once again found open, but no one had touched it.
That night we also called in our resident psychic and with the use of K-II meters were able to ask simple yes and no questions of the reported spirits. In one session the group even communicated in Latin with the spirit of the long dead Monsignor, who had been confessor to the young girl who died in the family, while her spirit was nowhere to be found. But there were others present, the late mother and grandmother were there and a man who did not speak English or Spanish. By dawn, it was obvious the house was loaded with spirits, but none who admitted to be the brute who liked to push around visitors or float through the house like a black specter.

The next morning, members of the family came to the house to be interviewed and they told tales that rivaled anything found in the Amityville Horror, but the stories only meshed partially with the evidence. It was decided that while the trip was a long one, there would be a need to return with more specialized gear and perhaps another fresh team for a second look. The family agreed and we were on our way home.

Later that week, we had conversations with several family members, one of whom reported that when one of girls in the family returned to the house after our visit, a friend who had accompanied her asked what room was most affected. When the man, whom family members often called Hulk Hogan, entered the room, he reportedly was lifted off the floor and was being strangled, he eventually got loose of his unseen attacker and ran from the property. Now the family was in a quandary; they wanted to sell the property, but feared that further investigation would only upset the spirits and make it unsellable. They also feared that neighbors would figure out what was going on and did not want to be branded as supporting a haunted house.

The case study abruptly ended when the family decided that our services were no long needed.
